So how do you change the system? A pan association "college" that covers all bodywork and massage practice, similar to something like the College of Massage Therapists Ontario (see http://www.cmto.com/)

Nudenut, many people feeling your pain. When a system is developed and then fails, you need to develop another system. Liberals lost an election over it. Only problem is, we don't vote on a number of parties to lead our industry, we simply hope they do their best to develop a solid future for our industry. We have little choice.

So we need the current bodies to look at the short falls of the schooling system and rectify them. Well at least alter them for the better and hope they rectify them.

These issues need to be raised before they become an association concern however. Raise them!

And I suspect you seriously need to be.

You've got it. The problem is the system, not the associations.

The associations can't (and don't have the ability or power to) police the private or public colleges anymore. Quality assurance, from what I understand, is in the hands of the government.

They can't even reject the dodgy (via correspondance) ones if they are delivering a HLT qualification in massage. Pre HLT they could have chosen not to accredit them: now that the health fund recognition is tied into HLT quals rather than association endorsement, for an association to reject any one RTO would lead to a Fair Trading case.

Well said.

We are on the same page on this one. Bring on more dialogue and co-operation between the associations.

The true winner in that situation would be the industry.

No, because that is a government responsibility and outside the scope and role of the associations. But the associations could make representations to the government, except would the government take them seriously when the industry has no universal scope of praciice? Probably not.

Just reinforces my old argument about an umbrella peak body composed of all associations to represent the industry.
